Our focus at Garden Haven Dental is to do everything we possibly can to transform your experience into a pleasant and joyful journey. You might decide that you would be more comfortable having certain procedures, which are complex or lengthy in nature, with the aid of a method of sedation. You will still be awake, but have a deep sense of relaxation and also a reduced perception of pain.
Types of sedation
We are pleased to offer two types at Garden Haven Dental:
Inhalation sedation with happy gas
You breathe laughing gas, combined with oxygen through a mask that’s placed over your nose. The gas helps you relax. We can then control the amount of sedation you receive, and the gas tends to wear off quickly. This is the only form of sedation where you may be able to drive yourself home after the procedure.
Intravenous sedation (sleep dentistry)
You receive the sedative drug in liquid form directly into the bloodstream, so it goes to work more quickly. This method allows us to continually adjust the level of sedation.
Regardless of which type of treatment you receive, you’ll also typically need a local anesthetic numbing medication at the site where the dentist is working in the mouth to relieve pain if the procedure causes any discomfort.
Why would I choose to be sedated?
Some reasons why you might want to consider having this treatment are:
- More comfortable experience
- Alleviate fear
- Makes you more numb, and thus feel less of the procedure
- Reduces sensitivity of teeth, allowing pain-free cleaning
- Suppresses your gag reflex
Please make an appointment to discuss your options when having dental work completed. Don’t put off having essential treatment for the fear of being in pain, we can solve this with the above options.
